is sending a link better than cut and paste text?

When I read an article on the phone I can cut and paste all the text and send on an app ( like whatsapp ) or simply send the link to my friend. Which method is more resource efficient on my friend's phone when he receives the message?

The recipient can't open the link if he doesn't have an internet connection.

It is more efficient for the "system" when you send the link instead of the text.

Most of my friends would prefer the link so that the article can be shown in my friend's preferred browser.
Obviously this requires an internet connection, but so does WhatsApp.

Depends how long the text is or if I'm going to have to sift through an entire article for one paragraph. Generally I'd prefer to get a link.
