Google tablet waiting for fastboot command?

When I turned it on, in addition to the 4 thin color bars at top,
Waiting for fastboot command..... message appears. What do I do and what's wrong? It's still there after 45 min.

Welcome to the forums. You should be able to use the volume rockers to cycle through your options. Start will reboot you into Android. As long as you aren't pushing any files through the cable to your device, you should be fine.
