Htc one e9s touchscreen not working properly

From yesterday my phone's touchscreen isn't working properly i.e. if I tap continuously then after 3-5 seconds it works, the taps after that keep working for similar time, and then again the taps don't respond. This is happening the whole day and I don't know what to do.

I've reset the phone, done as many things as I could find to resolve, but nothing's helping. Nothing happened with the phone till now, not even in the past few days before this the phone fell in water or had a drop or something. If there's some screen replacement etc to be done by service centre then it'll be a huge cost for me, I want to avoid that, please help.

If you are saying that the phone has been dropped in water, then repairs may be unworthwhile, since water damage tends to be progressive. So if you pay for a repair now, the phone may develop other faults later. Of course, it may not....there's no way of knowing.
