My network card is missing

AC Question

hi,
this morning i couldn't connect my desktop to the internet over the LAN using the ethernet cable. i was able to successfully connect my laptop to the same cable. I did a search for my network adapter card and i noticed a couple of things: 1. there was an unknown device present under 'Other devices' and 2. the network adapters were listed as WAN Miniport (IP), WAN Miniport (IPv6) etc. which i didn't recognise.

Does anyone know the best way to see if i can get my network adapter working again?
i am running the latest copy of windows 10. I am sorry i don't know the name of the network adapter card but i could open the computer up tomorrow.

i have tried uninstalling all 8 of the wan miniports but they just come back. also (quite drastic i know) i reinstalled windows in the hope that it would sort out the problem. i didn't.

thanks,
david.
