Capacitive buttons not working

I bought and Innjoo Fire a while ago. I didn't like the standard rom so I searched the internet and chose one out of about 3. I installed it using TWRP. Immediately after it installed I noticed the capacitive buttons weren't working. So i tried one of the other roms on the internet. Also didn't work. When I flashed the default one again the buttons worked. I also noticed that the buttons worked in recovery mode even with the custom rom. Eventually I used the one custom rom and activated on screen buttons by adding qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 to the build.prop . That's been working fine for a while, but it would be really great if I could get the capacitive buttons back. I've looked a lot at all the keylayout files and they seem more or less right compared to the stuff I've seen about other phones. Any ideas?
