Is it possible/recommended to upgrade the Android OS v 2.2.2 to a later version on the LG Ally?

A

AC Question

I inherited an "old" LG Android Ally phone from my brother. Using this phone would be an UPGRADE from my LG Octane phone.

Understand i strictly use a cell phone as a phone and possibly some pictures and a calendar to enter appointments, etc. NO GAME playing.

From what I can tell... the phone is running under Android 2.2.2 O/S, Baseband version: VS740MVE.6040.1001, Kernel version: 2.6.32.9, Build number: FRG83G, SW Version: VS740ZVE.

I ask this because v2.2.2 is no longer compatible for apps on the Google Store and/or the "Market" app.

Thanks for you help.

A good place to search for that would be XDA Forums, where custom ROMs of later versions of the OS for your device may be available.
So, 'possible', perhaps. 'Recommended', difficult to say....flashing ROMs involves some risk.
