Why did my charger cable fry my phone?

I have a four month old huawei p8 lite. I have been using the factory wall plug and USB cable, and noticed charging issues yesterday. I managed to get it to charge overnight, woke up this morning and took it off charge and carried on using it as normal. I have gone to plug it back in tonight and it will not charge at all, upon inspecting the plug on the usb cable it's burnt/black and my phone will not charge with other wall plugs or usb cables. Why did it fry my phone and what can i do to fix it and get it charging again?

At four months it should still be under warranty... Take it back for repairs lest it burns your house down
