Welcome to Android Central! You're probably looking at thumbnails. Where did you find these files?

Welcome to the forums. Which phone do you have? Where are you seeing those files?

I was thinking more details than that. Where are you seeing the thumbnails? A gallery app? A file manager app? Can you tell which directory/folder you're looking in?

Are you using an SD card to store your media files? Have you already tried restarting the phone?

The original post of this thread back in 2017 mentioned having lost their photos and videos, then recovering them with some kind of data recovery program. Did that happen to you as well?

Which recovery program did you use? It's very possible the recovery program wasn't able to recover the actual video files, but only the thumbnails. Or perhaps the process you went through didn't specifically look for video files.

Why is it like pulling teeth to get information?? Where were the videos stored? You have been asked but not answered. Are any videos showing in Photos app? The more detail you can give, the better.

Which version? Windows? Do you have a link to the software? If it's the Windows version it's not designed for mobile but will work on SD cards

Hard to say, since we weren't there when you tried to do the data recovery using that program. If possible, try running it again, playing close attention to what kinds of files are recoverable. By this time, though, it may no longer be possible. You might also try contacting the support team for that recovery program.

OK Nothing is likely to be recovered unless you root the phone. Video files are difficult to retrieve as segments may already have been overwritten if the phone has been in use. The only thing the recovery software has done is recover low quality thumbnails. The truth is there is little chance of recovery.
