Why are strange black photos showing up in my gallery?

Several random 'black photos' showed up in my gallery one day. I had no memory of taking them, and they were taken at a time when I know I was not awake. I brought up the brightness of the photos in an editing app, and discovered they were not completely black as I had thought, but some of them were really obvious and strange shapes. I've recently talked to someone else, with an iphone, and they said they have experienced the same thing recently. Any idea of what this may be?
