how can i get my laptop to recognize a Motorola Secure Digital SD card reader/adapter

Laptop is a Dell with Windows 7. Has not been in use recently. Want to download drivers but it is not my computer and I don't know if that costs anything.

The generic Microsoft driver for card readers might be good enough.
If need be, downloading the Motorola drivers should be free.

Plug in the reader and see what happens.
