Why does my camera light randomly turn on?

I recently got a new phone and I listen to my music with it every night. Lately I've noticed every now and then when I put my phone down my camera light's on on its own. It's usually a solid light but it's sometimes flickering from bright to dim but not on and off. This usually lasts about 20 minutes. Does anyone know why this happens?

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Some phones have a setting to make the camera LED flash act as a notification light. Go to Settings>Accessibility​ or Settings>Notifications to see if there's a setting for that.

Are you referring to the small LED notification light at the top of the phone near the screen, or the bright "camera flash" on the back of the phone near the camera lens?
