Why do i have a slight overlay of the 3 buttons when they are not in use

Recently I noticed when in low light situation within programs in the G5 I noticed that I looks like a screen shot has been taken of the screen and then made really dim so in low light situations in programs I can see my time from like 3 hours ago battery and the task buttons
