Why is it saying that my system is taking up 29/32 of my GB?

I am constantly getting this message that I need to make more phone storage, so a while I put an SD card of 14GB in. That worked and then last night my phone died and reset and It has since been telling me I have no space (also deleted all my pictures). And that the thing taking up almost all of my storage is the System components. How to I fix this or make more space?

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Did the phone die due to low battery, or did it crash and do a factory reset on its own?
