I'm looking for one that has it all and it's known for the quality and stability.
Open Source , Smart (mobile setup, connected devices control), Open Source - security control and VPN compatible.
I found a few and they are around 240-300$, but wanted to hear from someone of Jerry's experience and reputation :) - which one to choose ?

I cannot/will not speak for Jerry. Last year when I was upgrading my router I found https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/ almost to much info. For my my needs/budget the Netgear R7800-100NAS was best choice. Funny it's $70 cheaper now.
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0192911RA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I think it covers most of your list. It did what I hoped by extending my 5Ghz range and it went beyond my expectations in improving 2.4GHz performance. I live in Condo and all of my neighbors have 2.4GHz routers and very few have 5Ghz. My old router couldn't transfer faster than 6Mps even though my internet went from 30Mps to 200Mps. R7800 got my 2.4Ghz averaging above 70Mps and 5Ghz into both bedrooms. Your mileage may vary but I'm happy with my purchase.
