Why group message limit

Can I add to text more than 10 names to a group message?

All of the US carriers place unreasonable limits on the number of contacts in the group texts.
Each carrier has a different limit. ATT seems to be the worst at ten.
Some of the carriers will feed you a line of BS about why they do it, but in the end it is still BS and still won't be changed by the carrier.
