Why do I not get notified of my husbands texts on my bluetooth?

Why do I NOT get notified on the Bluetooth, in my car, when my husband sends a text. I get a notification for everyone else's (on my contact list) texts . My husband and I both have Galaxy J7 phones. I did not have an issue with our previous phones. His incoming phone calls work with the Bluetooth. It indicates when he is calling.... just not texting.

Is the texting app open at the time?
Is this conversation being viewed at the time?

Some texting apps will not play the notification when the new message updates the currently viewed thread.
