How to change DNS settings to static in 7.1.2

[AC Question]

I have taken the following steps

1 selected my wifi
2 tapped forget
3 tapped the wifi
4 entered password
5 tapped advanced
6 changed the DNS 1 and DNS 2 settings

But the option to connect stays greyed out only the option to cancel is available.

If I only go as far as number 4 above when I enter the password the connect button becomes active and connects to the wifi
