I have a galaxy s6 active, and recently I've been getting texts but they look as if they came before my text, and this is only on sms. I looked into the settings and all I've seen is an option to restart the app but I don't want to take the risk of making anything worse. I know it's just a slight inconvenience but trust me, it gets super annoying.

Welcome to Android Central! Does this persist after a reboot? If so, then go to the App Manager, select the Messaging app, tap Storage, then Clear Cache. If that doesn't help, then try wiping the system cache partition, which won't erase any personal data: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-21095
