Phone dead, no lights, no buttoms, no screen, charging just makes it hot but does nothing else.

I plugged my phone in to charge over night. When I awoke it was extremely hot, and was off and unresponsive. No lights come on, screen is off, and the buttons don't work, so don't recommend I hold buttons to do a reset. Any ideas what killed it, or steps I can take?

That may need repairer attention, and urgently if you wish to continue using the phone.
