Can the infrared light next to the front sensors be turned on for pictures?

When using the iris scanner, a little red light pops up on the top where the sensors are on the front of the phone. At first, I thought this was some new technology that could detect minute details in the iris, but it turns out its actually an infrared light that works like night vision. I figured this out last night when it was dark in my room and I was trying to unlock my s8 using the scanner, and it worked. On the lock screen, the camera shows a small portion of what it sees in a little bar on top of the lock screen. In the dark, the camera could see perfectly.I dug around the settings and the camera application but I couldn't find any option to turn this infrared light on the front. Anyone?
