My phone seems to be locked up.

I unplugged the phone from the car charger. The screen went to black with the blue circle in the center and the notification light in the upper left is fading in and out. I have tried rapidly clicking the home button. I have tried turning it off. It doesn't respond to anything. There was a software update yesterday and since then, the phone has been acting kind of strange and draining the battery every two hours.
