My home button doesn't work, can I still use Google Assistant?

I broke my home button a few months ago (my phone fell from an 8 foot drop, and that was the only damage). Everything I'm seeing about Google Assistant requires use of the home button. I know my phone is equipped with GA (I have an HTC 10), but I can't figure out a way to use it without a home button.

Google has certainly made the transition challenging with little explanation.

On other devices the "Ok Google" command will trigger the assistant without the home button. Have you tried setting up the voice recognition phrase through the settings? It gets a little mirky on devices that had ok google search prior and now the assistant. However, on my moto g 5 plus for example, ok google does trigger the assistant.
