How to remove people/Leave a group SMS

I try to remove people from a group SMS like Apple does but I find no option to and it says "Cannot remove existing contact from group SMS" I'm running Android Nougut and I can't believe this isn't an option is this serious?

Group messaging through SMS (MMS, actually) doesn't work like that.

In order to remove someone from the thread, you have to start a new one without that person.

In order to remove yourself from a thread, they have to start a new thread without you.

To help with the "remove yourself" inability, depending on your SMS app, some apps give you the option of "ignoring" an individual thread. If your app can do this, what normally happens is that the messages for that thread still get saved to your phone, but no notification sound is played.
