why won't my Sony Xperia LT26. charge normally?

My android Sony works excellently EXCEPT recently it doesn't charge properly. I bought another cable (not plug) but that doesn't work either. If I hold the cable or phone in various silly positions it shows as charging but in reality, it isn't. Fed up...I tried using same cables to charge via laptop and it works...but full charge takes ages. Why is this happening?
