See texts from other people when phone is reactivated?

Hi. I own an Alcatel One touch for starters, and when I go somewhere a ways from home I usually buy a month of unlimited data from StraightTalk. This morning, I went to get the phone number of somebody I won't be seeing again for a long time. I was hoping to get their number and text them with some app like TextMe until I got my phone activated again, but they didn't have their phone on them and didn't remember their number. So, I gave them mine. Except, my phone isn't currently activated. My biggest concern is that they'll text me once or twice, see that I'm not responding, and not text again. When I activate my phone, will I be able to see their texts? Or not? If I can't, then I'll have no way to text them back, which is why I'm hoping that their messages will pop up. Help me!!

This would seem to be an excellent case for using email.

It would depend on your carrier, I know on Verizon if your phone isn't active, you won't get the messages when you activate it again.
