Crushed My Pixel XL Screen, How Do I Reset My Phone?

My screen is completely destroyed but the phone is still working. I have to send it back when I receive my replacement but all my personal info is still on the phone and I am concerned.

I tried using ADB to perform a reset, but when I type adb shell I get:
error: no devices/emulators found

My phone is connected via USB.

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Boot your Pixel phone into Recovery Mode.
Use Volume UP & Down button to navigate (scroll) through options on recovery screen, and Power button to select an option.
Select Wipe data / Factory reset option.
Confirm factory reset by selecting Yes.
