My S8+ screen will not black out when I am on a call.

I haven't seen this problem in years.
My face and ear are dialing random numbers and pressing app buttons while I am on a call. I saw the post about the sensor but I cannot test it as I cannot properly locate it on the edge of my phone screen as described. Please advise.

Welcome to the forum. You can test the sensor by laying the phone on its back, making a call and then placing your hand over the top of the phone. The sensor is along the top of the face just to the left of center.
