I don't think it matters which tablet or which keyboard, but the tablet is:

    Lenovo TAB2 A10 ZA000001US 10.1-Inch 16GB Wi-Fi

Either it works or it doesn't. If there's software involved, please tell me what to download. Otherwise, I assume I can attach a USB cable to the tablet from the female outlet on the keyboard, correct?

Well, actually it DOES matter which tablet and which keyboard. Not all tablets support OTG USB peripherals and not all keyboards use 'standard' USB drivers/protocols (for instance, keyboards that you need to install a driver for in Windows, will NOT work on Android unless the manufacturer has a specific app for it, which would be very impractical for a keyboard).

That being said, from reviews it seems that this specific tablet DOES support OTG USB so as long as you get the OTG USB (microUSB-to-USB) dongle and a keyboard that doesn't need external power or special drivers, you can do that!

You can also get an external BlueTooth keyboard and skip the USB dongle.
