FM radio on cell phone

[AC Question]

Trying to receive local FM(and AM...if possible) broadcasts on my phone. TRIED many apps from playstore; none of which worked. Does anyone know of an app that will allow this phone to act as a n FM radio receiver? Do I/can I activate the FM chip (if present) prior to app install? Would appreciate some advice. [Coolpad Arise 5560S---Kk 4.4.2] Citing industry reports or articles would be a plus, but, as always, first-hand experience is always the best answer.

Some phones have a radio chip in them, some do not. Check your phone's specs for details.

With the phones that have radio chips, some carriers disable them while some let them be used. Who is your carrier?

If you have a phone with a radio chip and if your carrier did not disable it, you usually need to listen to the radio using wired headphones because the wire is required by the system to act as the radio antenna.
