speaker turns off after playing voicemail

[AC Question]

Every time I play a visual voicemail the external speaker turns off and I can no longer hear notifications or ringtone. Doesn't matter whether I use the speaker or earphone to play the voicemail. Rebooting the phone will fix it 'til the next voicemail. Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

Welcome to Android Central! Is this a Visual Voicemail app, or is it integrated into the Phone app? Which carrier do you have?

It is a V V app. Carrier is AT&T. Thanks

First, try going to the App Manager, selecting the Visual Voicemail app, and clearing its cache and data. (If you have any important saved voicemails, be aware that clearing the app data might delete the voicemails.). If that doesn't help, try wiping the system cache partition: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-27777
