I have the exact same issue (Nokia 5, Android Nougat 7.1.1, I also run the MS Next home-screen which I find great for displaying upcoming events).
There is a persistent '1' on the Google Calendar icon that I cannot get rid of. The Google Calendar App is my first icon in the lower taskbar, meaning that I see this '1' EVERY time I use my phone and it's been there for months now.
It's not so much that there is a notification there, that's fine.
But HOW do I know which event or reminder this is so I can clear off this annoying "1"?
- scrolling through the calendar, there are no events that appear bold (or 'unread', but this is not how the calendar works anyway; events are just there and they are never bold)
- I can even uncheck the boxes for events and reminders to show a blank calendar and the '1' remains ever-present sitting on the app icon. a calendar 'refresh\resync' doesn't do anything.
- clicking on the '1' on the icon isn't recognised, it just opens the calendar app
- there is absolutely no status\notification within the calendar app where this '1' event could be
- I thought it may be a pending calendar app update, but this is not the case as I have apps set to auto-update
- I need general calendar notifications to remain set as I use these on the Microsoft Next home-screen (used to have a Windows phone and upcoming events on the main display are a must for me). I believe this to have been an event that was not manually dismissed, but just came and went.
- I even uninstalled\reinstalled the app, no success.
