Welcome to Android Central. I'm sorry, unless you had those items backed up there is no way, other than rooting, to retrieve them.

Even rooting may not help. That entirely depends on how the files were deleted. Rooting is needed in this case to allow an app to access the storage at a deeper level but rooting won't magically restore the files. If the sectors in the flash memory have been overwritten you won't get much back.
