Welcome to Android Central. Once you have those set you have to enable security to require an unlock action beyond swipe. That will be in Settings, Security.

I don't know whether this helps, but I once downloaded a Windows-style launcher on my LG G3, which unfortunately rendered the screen lock inoperative. You could just swipe straight in, so it had to go. It may therefore be worth trying Safe Mode if you continue to have problems, to test whether a third-party app is causing trouble.

As of Marshmallow that Swipe cannot be removed anymore. It serves as the lockscreen notification panel where your notifications appear.

Anyway its not like you need to swipe. Just unlock it with fingerprint as soon as the phone lights up. This was what I liked with the physical home button and its front position. I just press on it, the screen lights up, and I just not lift my finger and voila, unlocked in one motion.
