A

AC Question

Can I use selfie mode to watch the eclipse and not damage my Moto 4G Plus?

Ok, but I think it would damage the sensor to focus the Sun on it, unless perhaps fully eclipsed.

I'll try to find an astrophysicist among the members for a more knowledgeable judgment. Stand by. :)

I read a couple different camera sites that say you can damage the light sensor if you are exposing it to the sun for prolonged periods of time.

'A solar filter must be used on the lens throughout the partial phases for both photography and safe viewing.' taken from here
This is located in the starting exposure section.

Edit: to view the eclipse, and if you don't care if the front camera is possibly damaged, then yes, this is an indirect way to view the eclipse, which would be safe for your eyes.
