I made the mistake of doing the Nougat update and it screwed up a lot of things on my phone. I have managed to get most of it manageable, but even though my home screen is exactly the same in terms of icons, it shrunk the weather widget to an unreadable size for some unknown reason. I have tried all of the settings for font size, screen magnification, etc., and none change the widget. I have also gone into the widget's settings, but nothing is there for font.

I actually have 3 questions. How can I get it back to the previous size?

his is my first android phone so I would like to know if the updates typically screw up everything that took hours to set up to get your phone to your liking? That shows a pretty poor attitude toward users.

I actually really dislike the changes to messaging and a few other areas as well, but it is my understanding that it is not easy to just roll back to the previous. Is this the case?

    Thanks

Welcome to Android Central. The update to Nougat was a major OS change, most updates aren't that large. Nougat includes quite a few improvements including security and was not a poor attitude toward users.

You can rollback a major OS upgrade but that has its own pitfalls and issues: Reflash ROM or downgrade upgrade:
