Is it possible to put a motherboard from a phone with a bad ESN into a phone with a bad motherboard and have it able to be activated?

No. The ESN is baked into the MB. Why is the ESN bad?

I think it is just the display connector on the motherboard. Any way of fixing that?

We still need to know why the ESN is bad before answering further, since there may be legal issues.

The bottom line is - if the phone you buy has a "bad" ESN, that status will follow to the phone you're repairing if you're swapping the board for the repair.
