Can a text show another persons number?

Someone said they got a text from my phone number. I did not send it. Can my number be faked?

Well there's a whole list of apps that claim to do it. I've never tried though

Well the FCC website warned about spoofing in a hurricane Harvey scam, so it looks like it can be done.

Number spoofing has been pretty easy for years. All the robocaller calls you get from seemingly the same company but from all over the country are from the same company just changing the callerID.

Spoofing the "from" number in a text message should not be that hard. The catch is that any response is going to go to the spoofed number.
