Why am I having signal issues?

I have tried everything to troubleshoot why I lose signal and connectivity all the time. Sometimes it says my SIM card isn't in. Sometimes it just says I'm out of my service area or there is no mobile network available. My phone is refurbished. I asked a local repair place about it and they said it could be because the electronic board behind the home button and other buttons is brand specific. So they explained that if it was replaced in my Verizon phone and a different brand was used it would cause my issues. Is this true?

Welcome to AC forums.
Sounds like a lot of ifs in what they are telling you. Did they actually do any diagnostics that you are aware of?

No because I can't afford to have it fixed right now. So I don't want them to pull it apart and then that not even be the issue but charge me for it. Seeking all tips and suggestions to try before going that route.
