How do I find out what is causing pop up ads?

I have a super annoying issue where I randomly have ads pop up.

It is very random but driving me mad. I have the Moto Z2 Force and I got the Gamepad Mod, so I downloaded a ton of games at once.

I assume i could just uninstall all of them, but I would like to figure out which one actually caused it

You could install and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then install and run a good anti-virus app, like Kaspersky Internet Security and run it. (Run one overnight, then run the other one the next night - and make sure the charger is plugged in.)

Also, you could try an easy trick and see if you can find out the culprit. Enable the developer options and when that screen pops up open them and see what's listed under running services. There's a big chance the culprit will show up there.

So I think I found it. I just uninstalled one app at a time and tried to see if the ads stopped.


I will keep a log of what I uninstall here:

Retroarch

Dead Effect 2

Wrestling game

Sonic 1

Ninja Kung Fu Fighting 2

So it appears after Ninja Kung Fu Fighting 2 was uninstalled the ads quit

I did try Malwarebytes and some kind of add on detector app, but neither showed any thing weird.

I even searched in the Add On detector app for apps with Draw Over permissions, and I don't think it showed Kung Fu.

However we are going on 12 hours since I uninstalled that app and no pop ups

I did not try that developer options trick though, I will have to remember that one if it happens again
