I have an Samsung Galaxy s4 active but I can't use it unless it is on the charger.

I have tried charging it up fully and using it but it stays on for a minute and shuts of an and shows the battery sign that shows when you shut it off and charge it. So I then put it on the charger and then it works. something do with the battery?

Welcome to Android Central. I'd say the battery is gone. I wouldn't use it attached to the charger as a dead or defective battery could get very hot and ruin the phone.
