I have a google account with a gmail address. I'd like to create another gmail address.

When I try to create a second gmail address, I'm asked to open another account. Does this mean each gmail address is linked to it's own account?

So if I have 3 gmail addresses I will also have 3 accounts?

This seems weird to me. I'd rather have all the gmail addresses under one account.

Am I looking at this correctly?

Yes. Your gmail address is the ID of your account. It's treated as the identifier and your personal account.
