I inserted my new 128gb SD card into my LG Stylo phone which had been using a 64GB SD card with no problem. Unfortunately I opted to format the new card and now I cannot transfer my apps to the SD card as it says there is not enough memory. With the 64 gigabyte I had no problem putting quite a few apps over there on top of music photos Etc. What should I do two negate this format so that it will hold my apps.

Welcome to Android Central! How much free space does it say your SD card has in Settings>Storage? It's possible the card is counterfeit -- install SD Insight to see if the card is genuine or counterfeit. Counterfeit cards are programmed to report more storage than they actually have, and if you try saving more than the card can actually hold, then files can start getting corrupt. (Be aware that SD Insight might not work on all Nougat devices.)
