The sound on my text messaging is not working.

I have Samsung galaxy s8. It's new since 8/14/17. It worked fine until a few days ago. Turning phone on and off does not correct the issue

obvious questions.
did you make sure your phone ringtone is not on silent?
did you check messaging app settings and see if it's selected to receive notifications?
