Will clearing data in the apps menu for settings erase needed stuff not just that ?

allowed developer options on my Samsung s8+ now want to remove it. Will clearing data in settings from the apps menu delete anything else of importance?

Most likely, you cannot remove the dev option from the menu now.
However, it is just a menu entry. Just don't select it if you don't want to.
