IMEI clean, activation ready, but shows outstanding balance online

[Android Central Question]

Bought a tmobile note 8 from a 3rd party vendor. Phone works fine however,

1. Shows outstanding balance through the online tmobile IMEI checker

2. Called tmobile to have them check and they said the device was clean, IMEI was never activated, has no financial obligations and has no link to any previous accounts.

Am I missing something? or am i just being paranoid?

Welcome to Android Central! Is the online IMEI checker saying that there'e an outstanding balance on the phone's previous carrier? Do you know which carrier the previous owner had the phone on?
