    I'm guessing that in apps such as Pintrest and YouTube and such, previous searches are deleted.

    No, the cache is data that the app saved the last time you ran it, but that it should have cleared out when you backed out of it. If you normally back out of your apps, you won't have much in the app cache. But if, like most people, you just hit the Home button to run another app, leaving the old one still running, it eventually gets killed by Android and the cached data is left there, so it can pick up where it left off when you go to it again (in the "last run apps" display). If Pinterest saves searches, they're not in the cache (I don't use it, so I don't know). YouTube searches are kept whether you clear the cache or not.
