After I move a contact to favorites I want to press there name and call them. That's it, but instead after I select there name, I then have to press the phone pic to call them. Seems redundant. If I wanted to text them I would go the messages to do that, not the phone.

Welcome to Android Central! I prefer using the Direct Dial widget, which is a one-touch calling method. Go through the process of placing a widget, and use the Direct Dial widget. Once you drag and drop it to the homescreen, it will prompt you to select a contact, and then a specific number for that contact. Tapping the resultant widget will immediately call that number.

I like to create a Speed Dial folder on my homescreen that contains all of my frequently called contacts.

    What phone is this?

If it's a Samsung just swipe over the name. Left to right for a call. Right to left for messaging.
