Android Central Question

I have just started using Huawei Mate 9 and I am unable to send/receive group text messages. I've setup a group contact and I can send my text message using the group contact. However, the recipients of the message don't see it as a group message and the replies come only to me ... and not to any of the other contacts in the group. Can someone please help me to setup a group messaging? Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! Is your mobile data on? Group texting is sent as MMS, which requires mobile data to be on. Also, open your Messaging app, tap Menu>Settings, and see if there is an option to turn on group texting.

Hi, I've checked and my mobile data is on. When I open my Messaging app (the standard one that comes with Huawei Mate 9) I can find an option to turn on group texting. The Menu>Settings gives me the following options:
-> Malicious website identification (on)
-> Pin unread messages (on)
-> Cancel sending (off)
-> Ringtones and vibrations
-> Delivery reports (off)
-> Advanced
Under the "Advanced" option, I have the following settings:
-> Common phrases
-> Signature (off)
-> Manage SIM card messages
-> MMS auto-retrieve (Not roaming)
-> Always download and send MMS (Not roaming)
-> WAP push service (on)
-> Create mode (free)

Any idea what setting I need to change to activate group messaging?
Thanks

If you cannot find the group chat settings in the menus, the app probably does not support it. Many times the basic pre-installed apps are a bit too basic.

If this ends up being the case, try Textra or another big-name SMS app.

I just noticed what you mentioned about using the group contact feature. What happens if you create a group text by simply adding the contacts manually in the "To" line of the Messaging app? If that works, then the issue might be a glitch related to the group contact feature.

I just heard back from Huawei support and they have informed me that the Mate 9 enables you to send out group messages only and not receive replies within the same group.
I'll download an alternate messaging app.

Thanks all for trying to help me out :-)
