Ive reset my phone, deleted all messages even archived ones, turned off phone and sit for a few minutes then back on, pretty much everything I can think of other than giving it back. I found a solution!!!! If you're phone has the annoying red "1" in a circle by your text messages app do this to fix it!!!!! 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇
Download the "Reset Unread SMS" by Kamosoft

It cleared it up right away!!!
    Hope this helps everyone!

You don't necessarily have to download an app. You can also go to Settings>Apps, tap Menu>Show System, look for BadgeProvider, and clear Cache/Clear Data. Or you can select the launcher app for the phone and clear cache/data there (although this means you have to set up your homescreens again).
