    at this point it is not useable, but thought I would post question here in case....
    First thing 1. was msg alert the Sims card was not readable.
    2. picture began fading in and out flickering
    3. I called Verizon, tech had me open back and check sims card then
    when I turned it on it was fine.
    4. awhile later screen began flickering and fading to black.
    5. I took it to the Verizon Store. they replaced sims card and did a soft reset and phone worked well for few days.
    6. the fading and flickering of screen returned , I uninstalled most of the apps I had and used just as a telephone.
    7. it became unuseable, meaning the screen flickers and fades
    it sits on the counter and occasionally I will hear it ring or alert
    but can not get it to respond without screen fading

    is it possible it needs a new battery, would a bad battery cause these things?

    Welcome to Android Central! It's possible the battery is failing -- ask your local Verizon store if they have any spare G3 batteries that you can test. Otherwise, you could just buy a replacement battery -- it never hurts to have a spare.

    If you pull the battery and then reinsert, are you able to boot back up and see the screen? Does the problem still happen in Safe Mode as well? https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-30130
